Clinical Laboratory Scientist III

About the role

Under general supervision of the Endocrine (Endos) Screening Group Manager, this position uses considerable knowledge to independently perform highly complex immunofluorometric testing including Immunoreactive trypsinogen (IRT), 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP), thyroxine (T4), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), and galactose 1-phosphate uridyl transferase (GALT) analysis on high volume neonatal screening specimens. Serves as an authority on test procedures in the EIA laboratory, participates in maintaining analytic accuracy, and performs specimen preparation, analysis, quality control, data evaluation, result entry, and equipment maintenance. Work hours/days and laboratory assignments may vary; all staff members will be required to work on Saturday and some holidays as part of a rotating schedule.

Responsibilities

• Performs highly complex immunofluorometric IRT, 17-OHP, T4, TSH, and GALT analysis on high volume neonatal screening specimens; completes documentation and notifies supervisor of delays or atypical results.
• Performs high volume sampling (punching) of filter paper specimens for all newborn screening tests and standards/controls; determines specimen acceptability and assigns thyroid unsatisfactory codes.
• Evaluates and interprets highly complex data; reviews and releases final results; processes reports via the Newborn Screening Laboratory Information system; participates in quality control review, proficiency testing, equipment performance documentation, specimen workload tallies, and supply inventory.
• Performs routine and specialized preventive maintenance of highly complex equipment; identifies problems, troubleshoots, and makes routine adjustments.
• Promotes workflow through cooperative interaction, reassignment of duties, and teamwork; initiates rapid communication of abnormal test results; conducts staff training; complies with DSHS, local, state, and federal safety guidelines; supports disaster response or Continuity of Operations activation as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution; or Associate degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution.

Qualifications

• Preferred but not required: clinical laboratory testing including procedures in newborn screening or clinical chemistry or high-volume workload or complex analysis or complex laboratory instrumentation.

Skills

• Knowledge of general laboratory, clinical chemistry, quality control, immunofluorometric principles, techniques, and terminology.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety including sample-handling techniques.

Pay

$4,539.50 – $5,778.14 monthly, nonexempt.

Schedule

Regular weekday day shift with weekend day rotation and occasional holidays; up to 5% travel may be required.
