Responsibilities
- Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting all corrective actions when necessary.
- Identify and address problems affecting test performance independently or notify supervisors.
- Perform a variety of laboratory procedures, including manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines.
- Maintain and document daily, weekly, monthly, or as-needed instrument and equipment calibration and maintenance.
- Review and verify the accuracy of patient results before release or reporting.
- Recognize and account for age-specific variations in expected results.
- Ensure proficiency testing samples are analyzed similarly to patient samples and collaborate only after reporting results to relevant authorities.
- May perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups.
- Aid in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
- Comply with department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
- In the absence of a supervisor, assume responsibility for the section or department during shifts.
- Assist with LIS and/or POCT tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- ASCP certification or equivalent, preferred.
- One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stipulated by CLIA.
- Current and valid state license if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
Pay
A reasonable compensation estimate for this role, which includes wages, benefits, and other forms of compensation, is $28.00 to $37.68 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined at the time of selection, considering factors such as skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
