Responsibilities

  • Perform only those waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by California Bus. & Prof. Code and must possess a degree of skill commensurate with education, training, or experience and technical abilities.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow the laboratory’s established quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct them or notify the appropriate supervisor.
  • Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using both manual and automated methods in disciplines such as Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and others.
  • Perform and document maintenance on instruments and equipment as required (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed).
  • Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples, without collaboration with other laboratories prior to reporting results.
  • Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics, as required.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  • May serve as General Supervisor, responsible for the section or department during a shift.
  • May be assigned responsibilities related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and/or Point of Care (POC) testing.
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager or director.

Requirements

  • Two years of clinical laboratory work experience covering all areas of a clinical laboratory.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biological science, chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements as stated in California Code of Registration, Title 17, Section 1032, Clinical Laboratory Scientist (generalist).
  • Current and valid California State License.

Pay

A reasonable compensation estimate for this role is $44.45 to $54.33 per hour. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials, and licensure.

Schedule

Part-time (less than 60 hours), variable shift.
