Clinical Laboratory Scientist

About the role

We're looking for a dedicated Clinical Lab Scientist to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you'll be a vital part of our support team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates technical expertise and competence for all assigned tasks.
• Performs testing according to SOP.
• Maintains extensive knowledge of instrument and equipment, including routine operation, proper working order, preventive maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Performs, evaluates and documents required quality control procedures; documents remedial action or acceptance of out of control results.
• Participates in quality assurance activities as directed by supervisor.
• Uses good analytical judgment and problem solving skills to evaluate test results. Accurately reports test results. Notifies supervisor of problems and follows up as directed.
• Determines acceptability of specimens maintains positive identification and resolves and documents any discrepancies.
• Demonstrates a working knowledge of laboratory information system, including basic routines and other menus. Generates, reviews and acts on reports as required by laboratory protocol.
• Participates in training and orientation of staff.
• Maintains appropriate inventory of supplies and reagents; controls and ensures proper storage and disposition.
• Communicates critical values according to laboratory procedures.
• Evening shift employees must work their scheduled weekend rotation (nights) and also be available to support other vacant night shift assignments in instances of labor shortage (SH Main lab only).
• Day shift employees must work their scheduled weekend rotation (day) and also support evening vacant shifts in instances of labor shortage (SH Main lab only).
• Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in alignment with Saratoga Hospital values.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support health, healing, and service excellence.
• Perform administrative responsibilities with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.
• Use hospital systems and tools to document care and support operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science required.
• Licensed by NYS Department of Education as CLS or NYS CLS Limited Permit. If Limited Permit must obtain NYS CLS Licensure within 12 months of start.
• NYS DOH supervisor eligible required for MMA and WMA off site locations.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Commitment to providing patient-first, high-quality service.
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Currently registered with NYSED.

Pay

$31.00 - $47.90 hourly, based on experience and qualifications.
