Shift: 10 PM – 6 AM, 8-hour shifts, 40 hours per week. Every other weekend required. No on-call.
Pay
The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position: $54.67 – $79.00 per hour. Actual pay rate and pay grade will depend on years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, and employer business practices.
Responsibilities
- Provides technical knowledge, expertise, and judgment to support Sharp HealthCare’s laboratory services.
- Completes testing procedures using written policies and procedures; identifies and revises issues in policies and procedures.
- Performs new procedures within acceptable training time intervals; meets or exceeds department turnaround time goals.
- Documents activities and results thoroughly; reviews operational reports for clerical and analytical errors and makes corrections as needed.
- Evaluates data for accuracy and verifies questionable findings with thorough investigation.
- Performs pre-analytical (patient reception, sample collection, processing) and analytical procedures, considering patient age and population-specific factors.
- Demonstrates critical thinking and logical decision-making under stressful situations.
- Acts as a key resource for employee/student training, development, and competency assessment.
- Serves as a key operator for testing, validation, analyzers, and technology.
- Participates in writing and revising policies and procedures.
- Manages equipment, analyzers, and tools per manufacturer instructions; reports and resolves issues promptly.
- Removes defective equipment from use, documents problems, and notifies personnel for repair.
- Validates equipment performance post-repair and participates in analyzer/test methodology evaluation and selection.
- Performs and validates preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment.
- Manages inventory and evaluates consumables to prevent shortages.
- Coordinates quality assurance processes, including QC performance, proficiency testing, and test validation.
- Represents the laboratory in committees, task forces, or workgroups.
- Communicates clearly using tools like Closed Loop and SBAR.
- Supervises Medical Lab Technicians, Certified Phlebotomy Technicians, and Laboratory Assistants, promoting teamwork and accountability.
- Completes and assesses quality assurance indicators, monitors thresholds, and investigates errors.
- Performs shift lead duties as necessary and participates in regulatory and safety compliance activities.
Requirements
- California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Generalist license or a California CLS specialty license (Clinical Chemist, Clinical Microbiologist, Clinical Toxicologist, Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist, Clinical Cytogeneticist, or Clinical Histocompatibility Scientist) issued by the CA Department of Public Health. License must align with the assigned department.
- ASCP certification preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working as a CLS in a clinical laboratory.
