Responsibilities

  • Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, adhering to responsibilities listed under CFR 493.1425 and 493.1495, with a degree of skill commensurate with education, training, or experience and technical abilities.
  • Adhere to laboratory procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
  • Follow established quality control policies and procedures, documenting corrective actions for test systems deviating from performance specifications.
  • Identify problems affecting test performance and either correct them or notify the immediate supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
  • Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures requiring independent judgment using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other introduced disciplines.
  • Perform and document maintenance (daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed) on instruments and equipment.
  • Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
  • Recognize age-specific differences in expected results for newborns to geriatrics.
  • Ensure proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples; collaboration with other laboratories prior to reporting results is prohibited.
  • Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics, if required.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
  • In the absence of a supervisor, may serve as Lead Tech with responsibility for the section or department during the shift.
  • May be assigned responsibilities related to Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and/or Point-of-Care Testing (POCT).
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager or director.

Requirements

  • ASCP certification, or equivalent, preferred.
  • One year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution, or other educational requirements stated in CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
  • Current and valid State License if required by the state where the laboratory is located.
  • Experience with blood bank, chemistry, and hematology.

Pay

Competitive compensation with a reasonable estimate of $34.24 per hour for this role. The exact starting compensation will be determined based on factors such as skillset, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
