Duties & Responsibilities
- Trains medical students, residents and fellows in the lab and while in the clinic.
- Expected to actively participate in providing clinical research opportunities to fellows.
- This position will be responsible for bringing the most innovative clinical trials in hematologic malignancies to the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and the region utilizing intra and extramural partnerships.
- This position will be expected to establish extramural partnerships with the ultimate goal of offering the most innovative drugs in hematologic malignancies to patients at the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center before they are standard of care.
- This position will be expected to develop, initiate, and manage investigator-initiated trials in collaboration with the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center’s laboratory investigators.
- You will be expected to participate in Massey’s Clinical Trial Training Program, write 2 IITs by year 3 and year 4, and apply for a career development award by year 4.
- Efforts to obtain funding for your research in areas of focus consistent with the mission of the School of Medicine, Department, and Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center must be demonstrated.
- In addition, reasonable scholarly activities, such as publications, presentations at national meetings and participation in appropriate academic organizations, are expected as well as active participation as a scientific member of the Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center.
- It is expected that the person in this position will be active in decreasing Health Disparities in the community served by Massey/VCU.
- Attends on the inpatient wards and consult service, and/or sees patients in the outpatient clinic with a focus on hematologic malignancies.
Qualifications
- Board certified or eligible in medical oncology or hematology.
- Evidence of accomplishment/potential (e.g., publications, trial PI) during medical school, residency, fellowship, and/or early academic career.
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
