About the Role

Faculty members educate Walden University students by effectively using online technology and resources to impart knowledge, information, feedback, and critique. This includes grading assignments, participating in discussions, responding to student emails, and utilizing technology to enhance the learning experience in a respectful and professional environment.

Training

  • New faculty receive training in online teaching techniques, use of the electronic learning platform (Canvas), university policies and procedures, socialization into Walden culture, assessment of academic integrity, and research supervision.
  • Teaching and mentorship assignments are contingent upon successful completion of required training.
  • During the first term, faculty may be assigned a peer mentor for additional support and classroom reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Assigned courses are taught using Canvas, with 24/7 access to Discussion Boards.
  • Faculty must engage in the classroom a minimum of 4 days per week and respond to student questions within 48 hours.
  • Regular and predictable availability, such as online office hours or chats, may be required based on program or college policy.
  • Faculty may have the opportunity to travel to university events and residencies, with full participation expected.

Requirements

  • Appropriate credentials and an earned degree from an accredited institution in the discipline being taught.
  • Licensure or license-eligibility may be required for specific programs; faculty must maintain current licenses and certifications.
  • All FNP Faculty must obtain RN and APRN licensure in Minnesota and provide evidence of current Advanced Practice certification.
  • Commitment to maintaining currency with research and professional scholarly contributions.

Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree (doctoral degree preferred for some roles).
  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience in higher education, with 1–2 years of online teaching experience required.
  • Current clinical experience in MSN-FNP practice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to advocating for the learning and development needs of students in a distance learning environment.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in using online learning platforms (e.g., Canvas).
  • Ability to operate personal computer equipment for 6–8 hours daily, including software such as Microsoft Office, Adobe Reader, and antivirus programs.
  • Required software: current web browser, Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash Player, Apple QuickTime, Windows Media Player, and up-to-date antivirus software.

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment, with potential exposure to moderate noise levels. The role involves operating personal computer equipment for extended periods and may include physical demands associated with a traditional office setting.

Pay

  • Graduate Course Instruction: $1,560 - $4,080 per quarter or semester, depending on course type and length.
  • Undergraduate Course Instruction: $700 - $2,200 per quarter, depending on course type and length.
  • Additional opportunities may include dissertation/doctoral study committee chair positions, research reviewing, and mentoring.

Actual pay may be adjusted based on factors such as course type, experience, geographic location, licensure, market conditions, and departmental budgets.
