Clinical Informatics Engineer
Job Summary
About the Role
This individual will develop expertise and informatics technology that will allow clinicians, researchers, and staff to improve the health outcomes of patients and advance toward a learning system at UC Davis Health (UCDH). This position reports to Enterprise Analytics and Data Services and is a key member of the Radiology Domain Specific Unit (DSU).

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience and/or training in Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Information Management Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 8 years of experience in the analysis, retrieval and management of clinical data from a healthcare software system.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python for data transformation, pipeline development, and query optimization, applied through sound data modeling, scalable design, and metadata management across research, clinical, and operational domains.
- Experience with modern cloud and data platforms (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, Azure) for designing and implementing scalable, compliance-aware data products that serve clinical and operational use cases.
- Experience with data ingestion, high-performance streaming, transformation, and quality frameworks (e.g., Fivetran, dbt, Apache Kafka, Great Expectations) for maintaining reliable pipelines across clinical and enterprise sources.
- Experience with data visualization principles and BI tool capabilities (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) sufficient to design data models that support downstream reporting and self-service analytics.
- Experience with healthcare data standards and source systems (e.g., OMOP, Epic Clarity/Caboodle), including cohort discovery platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce clear technical documentation and explain complex data concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Preferred Qualifications
- Epic Clarity/Clinical Data Model accredited or certification.
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience/training in Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Information Management Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience with orchestration technologies (e.g., Dagster, Orchestra, Apache Airflow) for managing lineage, deployment, and reproducible workflows.
- Experience supporting AI/ML workflows, including pipelines for model implementation and operational management, with attention to validity and model governance.
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills with demonstrated ability to assess data quality, identify risks, and develop practical solutions in regulated environments.
- Demonstrated capacity to mentor team members and promote data quality standards and best practices across both technical teams and clinical stakeholders.

The UC Davis Health Enterprise Analytics & Data Services (EADS) department serves as UC Davis Health's enterprise resource for data, analytics, and health computing, enabling the clinical, operational, research, and academic missions through data-driven decision-making. EADS provides the infrastructure, tools, and expertise needed to transform data into actionable insights while developing and delivering enterprise analytics solutions, dashboards, and decision-support capabilities that advance strategic initiatives and improve organizational performance.
