Clinical Fellowship Speech Language Pathologist

RISE Early Intervention Services is a growing organization that provides support to families of children birth to three years of age with disabilities or special developmental needs, helping them to build on their child's strengths, and to enhance and promote the child's growth, development and learning skills in their natural environment.

About the role

The Clinical Fellow Speech-Language Pathologist (CF-SLP) position is designed to provide a supportive environment for a Speech-Language Pathologist completing their American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Clinical Fellowship (CF) while developing the clinical skills necessary for independent practice. The CF-SLP will provide evaluation and evidence-based speech-language therapy services to individuals from infancy through adulthood under the supervision of an ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist. The Clinical Fellow will collaborate with participants, families, physicians, educators, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver high-quality, family-centered care while receiving structured mentorship and professional development.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive speech-language evaluations using standardized and informal assessment tools.
• Develop individualized treatment plans with measurable, functional goals based on evaluation findings and participant needs.
• Complete thorough evaluation reports documenting medical necessity, functional limitations, baseline abilities, treatment recommendations, and anticipated outcomes prior to initiating therapy services.
• Obtain signed physician orders and plans of care as required by payer and regulatory guidelines.
• Provide evidence-based speech-language therapy services that support communication, feeding and swallowing (when appropriate), cognitive-linguistic, and related functional skills.
• Deliver individualized therapy sessions while collecting objective performance data, monitoring participant progress, and modifying treatment plans and goals as clinically indicated.
• Educate participants, families, and caregivers regarding evaluation findings, treatment recommendations, home programming, and progress toward established goals.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, educators, therapists, and other community providers to coordinate participant care.
• Maintain availability to provide direct participant care during scheduled working hours and collaborate with scheduling staff to accommodate same-day scheduling adjustments, cancellations, and appointment openings to maximize participant access to care and efficient use of scheduled treatment time.
• Complete accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation, including evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, re-evaluations, discharge summaries, and other required records in accordance with ASHA guidance, Idaho Medicaid, payer, state, federal, and organizational requirements. Documentation must support medical necessity, demonstrate participant progress, and meet standards for quality reviews as well as service reimbursement.
• Complete daily treatment documentation by the end of the business day whenever feasible, consistent with organizational policy and ASHA's recommendation for timely documentation.
• Complete evaluation reports within two (2) business days unless otherwise required by payer or organizational policy.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, care conferences, and program planning.
• Maintain professional competence through seeking supervision/consultation when appropriate, continuing education and adherence to evidence-based practice.
• Comply with all HIPAA, Idaho licensure requirements, ASHA standards, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Other duties may be assigned as necessary to meet the needs of participants and the organization.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program.
• Eligibility for Speech-Language Pathologist licensure.
• Eligibility to begin the ASHA Clinical Fellowship.
• Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
• Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous pediatric clinical experience through graduate externships.
• Experience working with children and families in clinical, educational, or community settings.
• Interest in early intervention, pediatric speech-language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, AAC, feeding/swallowing, or developmental disabilities.

Clinical Fellowship Support

• Direct supervision from an ASHA-certified Speech-Language Pathologist who meets ASHA mentorship requirements.

Equipment Normally Used

• Telephone and other office equipment e.g., computer, printer, fax machine, copy machine, etc.
• Vehicle to travel to programs, meetings etc.

Physical and Mental Requirements

• Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift, carry, or assist participants and equipment up to 25 pounds, with occasional heavier lifting as needed.
• Ability to participate in floor-based therapy activities with pediatric participants.
• Visual, auditory, and manual dexterity sufficient to perform evaluations, provide treatment, and complete documentation.
