About the Role

The UIC Retzky College of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is seeking a full-time, motivated professional for the position of Clinical Faculty (Open Rank)/Clinical Pharmacist assigned to UI Health's outpatient Antithrombosis team. The ideal candidate will provide pharmaceutical care to patients in antithrombosis management at the UI Health Hospital & Clinics. The clinic serves patients with major disease states requiring short or long-term anticoagulation therapy, including venous thromboembolism, atrial fibrillation, mechanical heart valves, ischemic stroke, peripheral vascular disease, and various hypercoagulable states. It also serves high-risk pregnant and pediatric patients needing anticoagulant therapy, as well as consults for peri-procedure bridging therapy.

The hospital is a 450-bed academic institution located approximately 2 miles west of downtown Chicago, serving an urban, indigent patient population. The Retzky College of Pharmacy, with campuses in Chicago and Rockford, is the #1 college of pharmacy in Illinois and #6 in total research grant funding, according to the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).

Responsibilities

• Provide pharmaceutical care under the Antithrombosis Therapy Management Protocol, including drug initiation and selection, ordering and monitoring labs, dose adjustments, ordering refills, discontinuation of therapy, and patient education.
• Bill each clinic encounter using facility fee charges.
• Develop and conduct staff development for nurses, physicians, and pharmacy staff.
• Coordinate and conduct quality initiative projects.
• Develop collaborative treatment and research protocols.
• Work in the Antithrombosis Clinic (ATC) 4 days per week with 1 office day per week (Monday–Friday during the day).
• Provide didactic lectures and precept entry-level Doctor of Pharmacy students, PGY1 residents, and PGY2 residents.
• Engage in scholarly activities, including presentations and publications.

Requirements

• PharmD degree.
• PGY1 residency experience required.
• PGY2 Ambulatory Care residency or 2-3 years of equivalent clinical experience preferred.
• Evidence of, or eligibility for, Illinois licensure as a professional pharmacist at time of employment.

Pay

The budgeted salary range for the position is $133,000–$171,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
