Clinical Epidemiology Fellow

About the role

This unique Fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for a medical professional with an interest in nephrology, epidemiology, biostatistics or public health to develop advanced research skills while working with one of the world's leading kidney registries.

Responsibilities

• Conduct epidemiological investigations relating to kidney replacement therapy, including dialysis and transplantation
• Provide analytical guidance and research support to kidney trainees undertaking Registry-based projects
• Increase clinical epidemiology capacity with Australia and New Zealand through involvement in Kidney Advanced Trainee education
• Support work on quality indicators through use of data such as work on dialysis capacity
• Prepare reports and provide regular updates to the ANZDATA Executive and ANZSN Council
• Present findings at national and international conferences
• Aid with data requests, clinical interpretation and research methodology advice
• Provide nephrology expertise to support Registry operations and stakeholder engagement
• Work closely with clinical, academic and healthcare stakeholders across Australia and New Zealand

Requirements

• A degree in Medicine with: Postgraduate training and/or experience in kidney, or a degree in Medicine, with postgraduate qualifications or equivalent experience in epidemiology, biostatistics or public health (one or other is essential)
• Experience interpreting and communicating complex clinical or research data
• Statistical analysis skills using statistical software packages
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize competing demands and meet deadlines
• Experience preparing reports, manuscripts or publications
• Understanding of Australian hospital systems and experience in working in a hospital setting, including ability to understand the issues around providing kidney replacement therapy
• Knowledge of health systems, health problems and social/behavioral determinants of health, with particular emphasis on nephrological and renal transplant related issues
• Ability to build effective relationships with clinicians, researchers and stakeholders

Qualifications

• A desirable qualification in epidemiology, statistics, public health or a related discipline
• A postgraduate (specialist) qualification in kidney/kidney medicine allowing registration as a consultant nephrologist
• A research higher degree (PhD, Masters or equivalent)
