About the role
Ensures competency of Clinical Documentation Specialist staff through ongoing reviews and skills assessments.
Provides timely and constructive feedback to enhance staff development.
Leads hiring, training, and performance management processes for all site-based CDI employees.
Assists in the development of policies and procedures for the CDI program.
Responsibilities
- Coaches, mentors, and empowers employees to complete tasks by providing information and support.
- Partners with coding leadership to ensure the accuracy of final DRG assignments.
- Maintains time and attendance logs, approves PDO, and troubleshoots technical issues as needed.
- Develops and/or utilizes educational programs to keep Clinical Documentation Specialists, physicians, service lines, and advisors up to date on regulatory changes and identified gaps.
Requirements
- Self-motivated
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent speaking and presentation skills
- Achieves 70% or greater on annual Clinical Competency Assessment
- Coding background (preferred)
- Quality guidelines: IPPS, CMS guidelines (preferred)
Qualifications
- Associate's of Nursing (required)
- Bachelor's of Nursing (preferred)
- Field Of Study: ASN, BSN
- 1+ year of experience as a clinical documentation specialist and/or quality experience (required)
- 2+ year CDS experience required to sit for the exam (required)
- 5+ years nursing experience in either med/surg or critical care (required)
