Clinical Dietitian
Job Summary
Responsible for providing comprehensive, high quality, safe nutrition care to patients in a variety of settings which may include hospital, outpatient clinics, community settings, and other related entities. Promote healthy eating habits to prevent and treat illness through supervision of food preparation and service, dietary modifications such as plant based diets, and public education.
Essential Functions
- Work closely with an interdisciplinary team of other dietitians, health coaches, providers, and physicians.
- Assesses and systematically implements individualized appropriate nutrition education for patients/families. Conducts comprehensive patient/family teaching. Provides educational resources for patient and family. Updates and develops new teaching materials as needed.
- Evaluates clinical data as to normal vs. abnormal parameters.
- Completes documentation of Medical Nutrition Therapy.
- Conducts group nutrition classes. Instructs at a level the participants and family can understand. Updates classes, arranges for samples, and provides recipes.
- Documents medical nutrition therapy and nutritional care for clients to ensure their records are complete and information about the client is available.
- Aids patient in establishing and monitoring goals. Works collaboratively and communicates with staff to improve patient outcomes.
- Maintains and modifies client care plan to ensure appropriate client services are delivered.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Functions in Ambulatory/Outpatient Setting
- Provides Medical Nutrition Therapy to patients encompassing screening for nutrition risk and all steps of the nutrition care process as appropriate.
- Completes nutrition counseling and education with both inpatients and outpatients.
- Maintains patient/family response and progress.
- Evaluates if expected outcomes have been achieved; communicates patient progress to the patient, family, physician.
Required Additional Requirements
- Education - Bachelors degree in Dietetics
- Certification - Licensed Nutritionist/Dietitian (LN) - South Dakota Board of Medical and Osteopathic Examiners; or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) - Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
Preferred Experience
- 1+ years of Healthcare Experience
- 1+ years of Clinical Experience
Physical Requirements
Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
