Clinical Coordinator, Surgical Technology
Stepful is a workforce platform redefining how America’s largest health systems build, train, and retain talent. Since 2021, Stepful has trained over 32,000 practice‑ready healthcare workers and partners with leading health institutions to address the national shortage of healthcare workers. The company is backed by Y Combinator, Reach Capital, AlleyCorp, and a $55 M Series C led by Oak HC/FT.
About the role
The Clinical Coordinator will support scaling onsite clinical operations for Stepful’s Surgical Technology and Sterile Processing programs. Acting as the on‑ground point of contact for client‑side clinical coordinators, preceptors, and students, the role handles site activation, clinical coordination, student support, and day‑to‑day client communication. Success is measured by students completing their clinical rotations and strong, trusting relationships with site‑ and hospital‑level stakeholders. The position requires regular travel to clinical sites across the U.S. (50%+ of the time).
Responsibilities
- Travel to clinical sites to lead pre‑launch preparation ahead of each skills lab, confirming logistics, materials, and site readiness with site leadership.
- Identify and onboard the client‑side clinical coordinator at each new site; lock in preceptor onboarding dates and ensure materials are shipped and ready before students arrive.
- Increase travel cadence as cohorts move into clinical scrubs, responding to ad‑hoc site needs as they arise.
- Build trusting relationships with students throughout their clinical rotation, serving as a consistent point of contact.
- Support students through clinical remediation when practice‑readiness or professionalism concerns arise.
- Track cohort progress against the clinical timeline; flag at‑risk students early and involve the Program Director and internal teams.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for client‑side clinical coordinators and preceptors across assigned sites.
- Onboard preceptors directly or alongside client‑side coordinators via in‑person or virtual sessions.
- Ensure preceptor evaluations are completed promptly and coordinate with preceptors and students as needed.
- Own the recurring biweekly check‑in cadence with on‑site coordinators.
- Present independently to client‑side clinical coordinators, preceptors, and hospital staff, building credibility quickly.
- Support hospital‑level OR/division director relationships on multi‑site accounts, alongside the Program Director.
- Exercise judgment on issues to resolve directly versus those to escalate to the Program Director, and de‑escalate client concerns in the moment.
- Partner closely with Stepful’s Program Director and Customer Success teams to avoid duplicate client outreach.

- Willingness to travel to clinical sites regularly (50%+ of the time), with heavier travel during the clinical scrubs phase of each cohort.
- Comfort operating with real autonomy in a fast‑growing organization, building processes from an unfinished playbook.
- Bonus: experience in EdTech or online/hybrid healthcare training environments.
- Bonus: background in healthcare training, apprenticeship, or externship placement environments.
