Clinical Coordinator-GI Surgical Oncology 12E Full-time Nights

About the role

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for facilitating unit operations, coordinating staffing, and providing direct patient care in the GI Surgical Oncology department at Northwestern Medicine. The position requires a current RN license and BLS certification, with a minimum of two years of clinical experience in the area of focus.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates unit operations according to policy, procedure, and regulatory requirements.
• Captains new initiatives and assists in unit/departmental or hospital-wide committees/task forces.
• Communicates directly with patients and significant others about nursing care.
• Implements appropriate action plans to ensure safe, quality, and efficient care.
• Ensures safety and security of patients, significant others, and staff.
• Provides direct patient care.

Additional Functions

• Exemplifies a professional image and acts as an advocate for patients and the nursing profession.
• Assumes responsibility for personal development and education/certification related to clinical specialty area.
• Facilitates effective interdepartmental communication and promotes the philosophy and annual implementation plan objectives of Northwestern Medicine.
• Contributes to unit orientation and participates in nursing research activities.
• Assures that research activities are completed for an assigned shift.

Qualifications

• Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.
• Current BLS certification.
• Baccalaureate degree from an accredited school of nursing or equivalent experience as approved by the Patient Care Director (Minimum two years clinical experience in area of clinical specialty).
• Specialty certification in the clinical area of focus (preferred).
• Additional clinical experience in another clinical area (preferred).
