Clinical Coordinator, CMA I

About the role

The Certified Medical Assistant works interdependently with other medical professionals to provide quality health care to a high volume of patients. Medical Assistants provide direct patient care and treat patients in the office, as directed by a Physician, Advanced Practice Provider, Registered Nurse, or supervising clinical manager.

Responsibilities

• Under clinical supervision, perform delegated procedures common to the specialty area in a safe, effective manner according to Policy and Procedures.
• Assist patients to exam room and prepare patients for examination; identify patients with special needs.
• Perform accurate measurement of vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, body weight, height, and complete appropriate questionnaires.
• Record all allergies, medications, and pertinent lab work on flow sheets.
• Order, stock, and maintain exam rooms and clinic areas; disinfect exam rooms in-between patients.
• Perform related and delegated tasks, including taking and relaying messages and directing patient flow.
• Assist patients in completing health history.
• Perform ear lavage.
• Prepare and administer medications under the direction of supervising physicians.
• Notify patients of normal lab results.
• Prepare exam rooms for clinical procedures and assist practitioners with patient care.
• Assist physicians during routine checkups and other physical exams as needed.
• Complete Clorox 360 training.
• Follow standing orders already entered in the patients EMR (UA, Flu, Strep).
• Update the patients EMR with standing orders for tests if needed (UA, Flu, Strep).
• Administer PO medications under direct supervision of the physician.
• Administer orthostatic blood pressures.
• Work as a provider’s assistant in the daily clinic.
• Assist patients by answering phone calls and refilling medications at the direction of the physician.
• Make referrals to other departments and clinics to coordinate patient care.
• Maintain patient confidentiality.
• Perform errands as delegated by station supervisor.
• Keep clinical supervisor informed of high-risk situations.
• Demonstrate appropriate use in cleaning of equipment.
• Practice infection control, following OSHA guidelines and office policy.
• Maintain Medical Assistant certification and/or recertification. If not certified at the time of employment, will have 90 days to complete certification or employment will be terminated.
• Maintain CPR certification.
• Attend fire safety classes, clinical meetings, compliance, and other continuing education classes as offered by Physicians East.
• Adhere to department and office policies.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited associate degree Medical Assistant program and current certification through AAMA, NHA, RMA, or similar organization is required.
• Prior healthcare giver experience required.
• Experience in electronic medical records (EMR/HER) software required.
• Professional demeanor and recognition of privacy considerations for patients and families.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate and interact professionally with others.
• Ability to actively listen.
• Ability to observe and draft a narrative account of events accurately and cogently, in grammatically correct English.
• Ability to spell, proofread, and edit written text.

Schedule

Full-time, part-time, temporary, or PRN role based at Greenville OB/GYN, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Overtime may be required to ensure patients are cared for, tasks are completed, and calls are returned in a timely manner. Weekend work is rare but can occasionally be necessary.

Physical demands

• Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
• Involves standing and walking.
• Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Requires normal visual acuity and hearing.
• Requires exposure to bodily fluids.

Working conditions

Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Reports to Clinical Supervisor, Operations or Clinical Manager, or Director of Operations.
