Clinical Athletic Trainer -Ambulatory Surgical Center - $5,000 Signing Bonus

This incentive is limited to external candidates; internal transfers from the affiliated health system will not be eligible.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and implement the prevention, assessment, management, treatment, rehabilitation, and counseling of athletic injuries and conditions affecting athletes and patients within scope of practice, under general supervision of a physician or physician assistant.
• Review, obtain, and order diagnostic studies under the direction of the physician.
• Obtain a thorough patient history including details of injury, past medical/surgical history, allergy verification, and medication reconciliation.
• Perform an appropriate physical examination to include but not limited to: strength and/or manual muscle testing, range of motion testing, sensation testing, palpation, functional testing, and special tests.
• Construct and provide rehabilitation education to patients including range of motion, stretching, strengthening, posture, and body mechanics, including post-op exercises specific to individual/procedure protocols.
• Independently provide continual education to patients and family.
• Assist physicians with in-office procedures by prepping patients and assisting with the procedure.
• Generate orders for advanced imaging, physician referrals, and physical therapy referrals.
• Remove post-operative dressing, sutures, and staples while providing additional aseptic wound care.
• Remove and apply upper and lower extremity splints/casts.
• Properly measure, fit, and educate on the use of durable medical equipment, in addition to gait training and use of assistive devices.
• Teach and demonstrate on walker, crutch, stair, and bathroom mobility for pre-operative and post-operative patients.
• Triage patient messages including general/surgical questions, medication requests, prior-authorizations, and post-operative phone calls.
• Coordinate or directly perform the scheduling/rescheduling of appointments, consultations, testing, and procedures.
• Obtain accurate patient vitals including height, weight, temperature, and blood pressure.
• Complete all required documentation of patient care in accordance with OSUWMC standards and guidelines.
• Collect and process point-of-care tests, venipuncture, and other lab specimens.
• Perform appropriate physical exams for immediately post-operative patients for mobility training.
• Call and appropriately document post-operative patients 1 day post-op according to ASC/OSC guidelines.
• Opportunity to assist with surgery and become a certified Orthopedic Technologist through the National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists Inc.

Requirements

• Licensure by the State of Ohio Occupational, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training Board.
• Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers.
• Current BLS Certification.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from an Athletic Training Education Program.

Preferences

• Previous experience working with athletic populations and/or experience working in an orthopedic/sports medicine physician clinic.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Pay

USD $24.32 - USD $36.48 per hour.
