Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work
Position begins January 2027 (preferred) or August 2027. Candidates must be willing to teach both online and in-person courses.
About the Role
Auburn University at Montgomery’s Department of Social Work and Anthropology seeks a 9-month Clinical Assistant Professor of Social Work. The BSW Program is expanding to include online options and is one of the fastest-growing majors on campus. The program is CSWE-accredited, grounded in a liberal-arts perspective, and educates social workers to be ethical, competent practitioners who advocate for social, environmental, and economic justice across all system levels using a generalist, person-in-environment framework. The department currently includes nine full-time faculty lines and offers majors in Social Work and Anthropology, minors in Child Advocacy Studies, Social Work, and Anthropology, and interdisciplinary certificates in Gerontology and Museum Studies and Public Humanities.
Responsibilities
- Teach core and elective undergraduate Social Work courses, with emphasis on practice courses
- Maintain a productive community-involvement agenda
- Support retention and recruitment efforts for online and on-campus students
- Provide professional advising for students
- Assist with maintaining the program’s CSWE accreditation
- Contribute to the service mission of the campus
Requirements
- MSW from a CSWE-accredited program, DSW, or PhD in Social Work
- Minimum of two years post-MSW full-time social work practice
- Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
- Ability to develop and maintain effective, collaborative relationships with faculty, administration, and community partners
Preferred Qualifications
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
- Teaching experience, including online instruction
- Established record of teaching effectiveness with diverse student populations
