About the Role

The Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing contributes to the development, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the RN-to-BSN curriculum. This role provides leadership in course design, curriculum mapping, program assessment, and innovative educational practices to prepare graduates for professional nursing practice. Opportunities may include teaching in the summer term and supporting the nursing program’s commitment to high-quality, student-centered education across programs.

The faculty member collaborates with colleagues, laboratory coordinators, simulation coordinators, clinical coordinators, healthcare partners, and university stakeholders to align didactic content with skills laboratory instruction, simulation experiences, practicum experiences, and clinical practice environments. The role also involves curriculum innovation, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate the RN-to-BSN curriculum.
  • Lead course design, curriculum mapping, and program assessment.
  • Implement innovative educational practices to prepare graduates for professional nursing practice.
  • Collaborate with faculty, laboratory coordinators, simulation coordinators, clinical coordinators, healthcare partners, and university stakeholders.
  • Ensure alignment of didactic content with skills laboratory instruction, simulation experiences, practicum experiences, and clinical practice environments.
  • Contribute to curriculum innovation, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement efforts.
  • Teach in the summer term and support program needs as they arise.

Requirements

  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).
  • Two years of clinical experience.
  • Current unencumbered RN license or eligibility for RN licensure in Iowa.
  • Evidence of expertise in nursing education, curriculum development, and program evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education teaching in nursing.
  • Knowledge of nursing accreditation, IBON standards, regulatory requirements, and nursing competency frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in RN-to-BSN curriculum development and revision.
  • Experience with program development, curriculum mapping, and accreditation processes.
  • Experience aligning didactic curriculum with laboratory, simulation, and clinical learning experiences.
  • Experience with concept-based curriculum design, competency-based nursing education, and integration of learning experiences supporting clinical judgment development and assessment.
  • Experience with learning management systems and educational technologies.
