Clinical Assistant Professor of Machine Systems for Climate Smart Crop Production
Assistant Clinical Professor (9-month appointment with opportunities for summer support) in regenerative and climate smart crop production, focusing on agricultural machine systems, digital technologies, automation, and data analytics.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Agricultural Systems Management, Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field (required by employment start date).
- Demonstrated knowledge of machine systems for field crop production, soil health, conservation agriculture (including regenerative and climate smart practices), and soil systems.
- Experience developing and delivering extension programs and college courses.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
- At least one year of experience teaching agricultural systems management or similar courses (highly competitive applicants).
- Experience in content creation, grant writing, and refereed publications (highly desirable).
Responsibilities
This is a non-tenure track, academic-year appointment with 50% Extension and 50% teaching responsibilities for undergraduate and graduate courses.
Extension Duties
- Collaborate with and develop programs within Purdue Extension related to farm machinery, equipment setup/modifications, and emerging digital technologies for climate smart and regenerative crop production (e.g., no-till, cover cropping, conservation practices).
- Work closely with the Conservation Cropping Systems Initiative (CCSI) and other stakeholders to improve soil health on Indiana cropland.
- Conduct needs assessments, provide technical assistance, and develop Extension outputs (videos, publications, reports, popular press articles).
- Host workshops, trainings, and Extension programs.
- Collaborate with Purdue on the Farm to support field demonstrations and applied research.
Teaching Duties
- Teach and develop courses in the ABE department related to agricultural machinery, precision agriculture, digital agriculture, and data science applications in regenerative/climate smart agriculture.
- Course assignments determined annually; potential for online/distance teaching.
