About the role

The University of Michigan School of Nursing (UMSN) invites applications for a full-time, 12-month clinical track faculty position ideally beginning in January 2027. We seek accomplished board-certified Family Nurse Practitioners, clinical educators, and clinical scholars who demonstrate excellence in advanced practice nursing, teaching, mentorship, scholarship, and service. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to innovative teaching, interprofessional collaboration, and clinical excellence.

Applicants should have experience teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate nursing programs and be actively engaged in clinical practice. Preference will be given to Family Nurse Practitioners with strong clinical expertise in primary care. Interest in global health practice is desirable. Courses are delivered both online and in person, and this is an on-site position.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the development and implementation of innovative curricular activities.
• Collaborate with faculty and clinical partners to develop and sustain high-quality educational programs.
• Mentor students and integrate teaching, practice, scholarship, and service.
• Engage in clinically relevant scholarship that advances advanced practice nursing and healthcare outcomes, including peer-reviewed publications, evidence-based practice initiatives, quality improvement projects, program evaluation, guideline development, dissemination activities, and grant-related work.
• Promote the School of Nursing's Declaration of Values: empower each other to interrupt or disrupt disrespect; practice communication that is beneficial, kind, and true; inspire and be inspired by members' worth, significance, and integrity; cultivate respect for ourselves and others routinely, publicly, and privately.

Requirements

• Doctorate in Nursing.
• Nursing license in the State of Michigan (current licensure or willingness to obtain).
• Specialty certification in the State of Michigan; must hold a Family Nurse Practitioner Board Certification (FNP-C or FNP-BC) from the American Association of Nurse Practitioners or the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
• Demonstrated excellent communication, networking, and relationship-building skills.
• Current clinical experience in a practice-relevant role.
• Prior to the start date, must comply with all health requirements including standard precautions such as Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, orientations, licenses/certifications, policies, and procedures for assigned classrooms and/or clinical sites.

• Demonstrated excellence and sustained impact in clinical and/or didactic teaching.
• Evidence of leadership in advanced practice education, curriculum development, clinical program innovation, or professional organizations.
• Sustained record of clinically relevant scholarship with regional or national recognition.
• Significant service contributions to the profession, academic community, healthcare organizations, or clinical practice initiatives.
