About the role

Washington Gastroenterology (WAGI) is seeking a full‑time Clinical Assistant to join its clinic. The Clinical Assistant provides direct patient care in the medical office setting, using sound judgment and cognitive abilities to make patient‑care decisions consistent with patient needs. This entry‑level opportunity is suitable for candidates with some medical office experience or education who wish to obtain a MA‑R.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients for examination by greeting them professionally, gathering vitals (weight, blood pressure, pulse, respirations) and escorting them to exam rooms.
• Update and document patients' current medications, problem list, allergies, health history, and relevant complaints in the medical record.
• Provide instruction, education, and direction to patients on routine medical questions, procedures, and ordered tests.
• Manage routine clinic inbox requests.
• Support administrative functions of the medical office by assisting staff as needed.
• Assist in scheduling patient procedures, lab and x‑ray appointments, and follow‑up visits, ensuring proper documentation.
• Document all patient‑care encounters accurately, completely, and promptly.
• Maintain exam rooms, cleaning between patients and restocking supplies.
• Identify safety issues or areas of concern and notify the Clinic Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Medical field education at a technical college or equivalent preferred.
• WA Medical Assistant – Registered (MA‑R) licensure preferred or must be obtained within 60 days of hire.
• Current CPR certification preferred or must be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• One year of clinical and/or medical office experience required, or equivalent education/experience.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Ability to learn and work in health‑management information systems.

Physical Activities and Requirements

• Occasional travel to other local locations as needed.
• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting while performing administrative duties.
• Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling.
• Assist patients with weight support and positioning.
• Ability to grasp small objects and manipulate medical instruments.
• Reach overhead and below waist level.
• Lift 10 lb frequently; occasional lifts up to 25 lb.
• Push/pull up to 50 lb.

Pay

Hourly position with an anticipated compensation range of $20.35 – $25.45.
