About the role

The Department of Large Animal Medicine, College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia, is seeking candidates for a clinical-track faculty position in large animal surgery at the rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor. The successful candidate will join three other large animal surgeons on the daytime elective large animal surgery service.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise house officers and students receiving cases coming through the Hospital.
  • Participate in the department’s relevant clinical rotations, as well as didactic and laboratory courses.
  • Instructional responsibilities in the discipline are shared with the other six board certified large animal surgeons.
  • Service to clients and referring veterinarians is an integral part of hospital duties. The successful candidate should have an interest in promoting a caseload and innovative services that will serve the teaching and service needs of the College of Veterinary Medicine.
  • Development of continuing education programs to veterinarians and the public is encouraged.
  • Participate in scholarly activities related to the clinical service and teaching missions of the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Requirements

  • DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine.
  • The successful candidate is expected to obtain and maintain a valid Georgia veterinary license (regular or faculty).
  • Candidates are required to be board certified or eligible for board certification in surgery (large animal).

Qualifications

  • It is advantageous if the applicant has evidence of clinical, laboratory, and/or didactic teaching.
  • To be considered for the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure track), candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine and have completed residency training in Large Animal Surgery (minimum of 4 years post-DVM experience) including residency training.
  • To be considered for the rank of Clinical Associate Professor (non-tenure track), candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine, be board certified in surgery (large animal), and have a minimum of 9 years post-DVM experience (at least 5 years at the rank of clinical assistant professor or comparable training, background, and experience).
  • To be considered for the rank of Clinical Professor (non-tenure track), candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an accredited college of veterinary medicine, be board certified in surgery (large animal), and have a minimum of 14 years post-DVM experience (at least 5 years at the rank of clinical associate professor or comparable training, background, and experience).
