About the role
The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a patient-focused Clinical Services Specialist to support our Sioux City Family Medicine Clinic. This position will provide health-related services and/or clinical operational support to ensure effective and efficient delivery of healthcare.
Responsibilities
- Provide support services to clinical and non-clinical departments
- Support frontline clinic operations, including scheduling patient appointments, preparing pre-registration paperwork, obtaining and verifying pre-authorizations, and educating patients on billing processes and financial responsibilities
- Review patient charges for accuracy and answer questions about billing procedures and charges
- Afford problem-solving of scheduling issues
- Perform scheduling maintenance functions as necessary and provide coverage during staff absences
- Coordinate provider schedules (master schedules, daily templates, and clinic closures) as assigned
- Communicate with internal and external constituents, providing feedback to management on achieving goals and resolving service issues
- Collaborate with peers and co-workers to enhance the delivery of healthcare
- Interact with patients, visitors, physicians, and other clinical staff to ensure high-level customer service
- Ensure patient satisfaction and safety by documenting and triaging calls and inquiries appropriately
- Address concerns of patients and provide service recovery, escalating issues as needed
- Recommend processes to enhance patient and customer satisfaction
- Review scheduling templates and make recommendations for improvement opportunities related to patient access and clinical operations
- Develop programs, policies, and practices that enhance the patient/staff environment
- Provide input/suggestions regarding policies, practices, and programs that improve services
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a health-related field such as Health Information Management or experience and in-depth knowledge of health care systems to support care delivery (e.g., patient relations, clinic operations, etc.)
- One-year administrative experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in computer spreadsheet and database applications
- Desirable qualifications include experience with hospital operations and/or ambulatory clinic settings, scheduling in outpatient clinics, and experience with the Epic system
Skills
- Knowledge of major responsibilities, accountabilities, and overall organization of the customer support function or department
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, including patients, visitors, physicians, and other clinical staff

Pay and Schedule
- Pay grade: 3A
- Salary range: $43,240 - $82,749 based on experience
- Schedule: Work hours vary Monday through Friday between 7:30 AM - 5:00 PM. No weekends, on-call time, or holidays required
