About the role

The Clinic Medical Assistant at Chinese Hospital Clinic assists patients with routine visits, follow-up care, and referral services. Working collaboratively with their designated clinic provider, the medical assistant helps deliver comprehensive, accessible, and quality care to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and direct phone calls, schedule appointments, check-in patients, and update patient records with necessary information
  • Prepare patients for examination, including obtaining vitals, medication lists, past medical, social, and family histories
  • Record patient’s medical history and upload to EHR system
  • Administer injections and medications, and perform routine specimen collection and tests
  • Maintain immunization records on EHR and CAIRS
  • Coordinate patient treatment plans, including specialist referrals, prior authorizations, and follow-up appointments
  • Assist physicians with medical treatments, procedures, and exams
  • Perform insurance verification and eligibility checks
  • Facilitate the full patient experience from check-in to check-out
  • Follow Hospital and Department policies and procedures, including Administrative Manual, Environment of Care, Human Resources, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance, and Code of Ethics
  • Attend, actively participate in, and complete in-services, training classes, mandatory classes, seminars/workshops, staff meetings, exercises, and drills; read all department communication and assigned materials
  • Provide excellent customer service and show compassion to all patients, visitors, and co-workers; seek feedback to ensure needs are met
  • Keep manager and team informed of progress, problems, development, and plans; interact positively with co-workers and others
  • Accept and perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Completion of a Medical Assisting Program is required
  • California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA) is preferred
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred
  • Current certification in CPR/BLS
  • Computer proficiency (EMR knowledge is a plus)
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to effectively present information, both verbal and written
  • Ability to take initiative, adapt to changing priorities, and work independently
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminologies
  • Fluent in English and Chinese (Cantonese and/or Mandarin)

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and/or listen
  • Use hands for computer work, writing reports, equipment setup/cleaning/storage, and clerical support
  • Frequent phone use
  • Good vision to read schedules and enter accurate data
  • Good general health and emotional stability to carry out duties
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds
  • Use proper body mechanics when handling equipment
  • Standing, walking, and moving 50% of the day

Compliance Requirements

Complies with Chinese Hospital Compliance Handbook, including Code of Ethics and all applicable statutes, regulations, and guidelines for federal and state programs. Responsibilities include following guidelines and reporting suspected violations.

Pay

Starting at $24.76 – $37.11 per hour. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
