About the role

Under the supervision of the Director of Health Information Management or authorized designee, is responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and diagnostic reports to extract data and apply appropriate ICD, CPT codes, modifiers, discharge dispositions, and other coding schemes to medical records for billing, internal and external reporting, research and regulatory compliance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Review clinical documentation and diagnostic reports
  • Extract data and apply appropriate ICD, CPT codes, modifiers, discharge dispositions, and other coding schemes
  • Apply coding schemes to medical records for billing
  • Apply coding schemes to medical records for internal and external reporting
  • Apply coding schemes to medical records for research
  • Apply coding schemes to medical records for regulatory compliance activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare, medical coding, or related field
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in medical coding
  • Knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and other relevant coding systems
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software

Qualifications

  • Current certification in medical coding from a recognized certifying body
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient privacy laws
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
