Climbing Arborist Trainee | Near North Shore (Wheeling) , IL
On-site position in Wheeling, IL. Travel up to 25%. Full-time, permanent role.
About the Role
Trim and remove trees, remove unwanted, diseased, or dying limbs to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areas. Join a tree crew while progressively learning new skills.
Responsibilities
- Learn to climb trees (training provided).
- Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients, including:
- Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines.
- Prune, thin, and remove deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
- Install cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
- Assist in removal of hazardous trees.
- Properly maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment, including chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.
Requirements
- Love of the outdoors.
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
- Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR, and defensive driving course upon hire.
Qualifications
Preferred background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights. Relevant pesticide and related licenses or certificates, if required by state law, are a plus.

Pay
Starting pay rate: $20–$23 per hour. All listed benefits available to eligible employees.
