Climbing Arborist Trainee | Chicago Area

Locations: Lombard, IL (additional sites in Naperville and Long Grove). On-site role.

About the Role

Trim and remove trees, remove unwanted, diseased, or dying limbs, and perform work that affects the health and safety of trees or surrounding areas.

Responsibilities

• Learn to climb trees as part of a tree crew while progressively developing new skills.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients, including:
  • Tree identification and industry pruning guidelines.
  • Pruning, thinning, and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy.
  • Installing cables, bracing, and lightning protection systems.
  • Assisting in the removal of hazardous trees.
• Properly maintain, prepare, and operate tools and equipment such as chainsaws, chippers, and aerial lifts.

Requirements

• Love of the outdoors.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire.
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree First Aid, CPR, and defensive driving course upon hire.

Qualifications

Preferred backgrounds include Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights. Relevant pesticide and related licenses or certificates, if required by state law, are also preferred.

Pay

Starting pay rate: $20–$23 per hour. All listed benefits are available to eligible employees.

Schedule

Full-time, permanent role. Travel expectations: up to 25%.
