ABOUT Maryland Just Power AllianceThe Maryland Just Power Alliance is a broad-based, community power organization dedicated to making our state a place where everyone can thrive. In coalition with Action In Montgomery, Anne Arundel Connecting Together, and People Acting Together in Howard, we work to build relationships with community members throughout Maryland to engage in meaningful civic participation. We win our victories by meeting community members face-to-face, listening to understand the issues that are of concern to our neighbors, and identifying and developing leaders to seek justice and social change in their communities through holding elected and corporate officials accountable. Together we have helped win $73 million for clean, affordable home energy. We are excited to be officially incorporating our statewide organization in 2026 to make an even stronger impact at the state level while continuing our deep local community organizing.POSITION SUMMARYThe Maryland Just Power Alliance is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Climate Equity Policy Fellow to join the Climate Equity and Healthy Homes team as part of a two-year Climate Equity Policy Fellowship program.The primary goal of the Climate Equity Policy Fellow position is to provide policy support and analysis while receiving training, mentoring, and coaching opportunities through programming aimed to develop expertise in equitable climate and clean energy policy and leadership.Our ideal candidate is a strategic, visionary, community and policy-oriented advocate who is passionate about justice and equity. The candidate knows how to work collaboratively, create authentic partnerships with groups representing diverse communities, and is committed to deepening their expertise on equitable energy and climate policy.The ideal candidate is grounded in community-based organizing principles and has a foundational understanding of environmental issues, including lived experience. This is a full-time position with a two-year team. The Fellow will report to the Lead Organizer at the Maryland Just Power Alliance.Here is what you might expect in terms of mentorship and coaching opportunities.Fellowship Program Dates: September 2026-September 2028Program-At-A-Glance:Year 1: 2026-2027Fellow hired and onboard in September 2026Fellow attends virtual fellowship orientation in September 2026Fellow attends in-person fellowship retreat in December 2026Fellow’s work plan and day-to-day tasks will be managed by Maryland Just Power AllianceFellow attend monthly virtual trainings with other Climate Equity Policy Fellows across the countryYears 2: 2027-2028Fellow attends monthly virtual trainings with their national cohort and optional Policy Learning Community callsFellow attends annual in-person Policy Fellow retreatFellow works with a mentor for 6 monthsPRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESGrassroots Power Building, Public Policy Development & AdvocacySupport the Maryland Just Power Alliance existing and developing programs and policies around climate, clean energy and healthy homesEvaluate existing and new policies and issue areas associated with climate justice and energy equity that Maryland Just Power Alliance may want to consider pursuingSupport state- and county-level campaigns and regulatory actions to advance policy solutionsSupport in writing draft comments and testimony, policy memos, drafting public communications pieces, attending meetings or hearings, drafting legislative updates for internal communication, etc.Conduct research and policy analysis to support advocacy effortsSupport the development of toolkits, presentations, case studies, infographics and other collateral to help allies and partners in advancing policy effortsCollaborate with state coalition partners to advance successful campaignsEducate and develop relationships with state partners and allies, including legislative and government leadersFacilitate meetings with community, government, and business leaders to drive advocacy forwardDraft legislation in response to policy priorities elevated by the Maryland Just Power Alliance’s grassroots leadershipLeadership & Professional DevelopmentParticipate in all cohort meetings, retreats, and trainings including the orientation, leadership development, and skills-based workshops related to the Climate Equity Policy Fellowship programProvide input and feedback on the Fellowship program to ensure it reflects individual needs through quarterly meetingsParticipate in Maryland Just Power Alliance training and leadership opportunitiesA STRONG CANDIDATE HAS: Lived experience with frontline communities; this includes Black, Indigenous, and communities of color and low-income and working-class communities, especially communities of faithDemonstrated commitment to environmental, racial, and social justiceDemonstrated capacity for a solid policy or legal analysis delivered in writing or verbally, to audiences with varying levels of knowledge about climate and energyDemonstrated strong writing skillsDemonstrated understanding and role of community organizing and participatory processes in policy setting and public policy advocacyKnowledge and policy experience with building decarbonization (moving off gas to clean energy) and energy governance (who and what drives our energy bills)Deep commitment to grassroots power-building and policy developmentAbility to speak Spanish is a strengthDemonstrated high independenceThe ability to drive to meetings at different locations throughout Maryland is requiredLIMITATIONS AND DISCLAIMERThe above job description describes the general nature and level of work expected and not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required. Please note this role will require some evening and weekend hours.
