About the role
The Arlington County Climate Policy Office seeks a passionate and skilled Climate Communications Specialist to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping and disseminating climate action and sustainability messages to a diverse audience, including policymakers, County staff, media, residents, businesses, and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver compelling communications strategies and materials to support climate initiatives and sustainability efforts.
- Collaborate with County departments to ensure clear and consistent messaging on climate action and sustainability.
- Engage with various stakeholders, including policymakers, media, and the public, to raise awareness and foster community support for climate initiatives.
- Manage media relations to effectively communicate climate policy and progress to the public and media outlets.
- Stay informed about climate science, policy developments, and best practices in climate communication to inform and enhance communication strategies.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, public administration, environmental studies, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in climate communications, public relations, or a related field.
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a proven ability to craft clear and persuasive messages.
- Experience managing media relations and engaging with diverse audiences.
- Understanding of climate science and policy, and the ability to communicate complex information in an accessible manner.
- Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Qualifications
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with graphic design software.

Pay
