About the Role
As a Client Controller, you're the first line of review on every client transaction as the person who turns raw activity into accurate, trustworthy financials. You'll own the day-to-day accounting for a portfolio of clients, build real fluency in their industries and revenue cycles, and become a financial partner they rely on, not just a bookkeeper they tolerate.
What You'll Do Daily
- Client Accounting: Serve as first reviewer on all client transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness; learn each client's industry, revenue recognition approach, operational cycle, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); build fluency across our core systems: Karbon, QuickBooks, Bill.com, and Fathom.
- Workflow & Task Ownership: Manage your day in Karbon by prioritizing by due date, clearing To-Dos, and resolving overdue items before they become client-facing problems; triage and respond to items within business hours; own month-end reconciliations start to finish.
- Financial Reporting & Analysis: Manage Revenue/A/R reporting (QuickBooks) and Bill Pay/A/P reporting (Bill.com); reconcile general ledger activity and maintain a clean, accurate balance sheet; use Excel to summarize, reconcile, and analyze financial data; prepare and deliver month-end financial statements directly to clients; spot variances and trends before clients have to ask about them; build and review forecasts with clients using Fathom.
- Process & Systems: Keep Bill.com clean with daily sync checks, inbox clearance, and issue resolution; maintain accurate, up-to-date QuickBooks records, including all bank and credit card activity; organize client documentation in Google Drive; bring ideas to the table — we actively want your input on improving reconciliation processes, AP/collections workflows, and reporting efficiency.
- Client Relationships: Meet with clients via phone, Zoom, and occasionally in person; communicate clearly and professionally as you are the face of CFOA to the client; keep touchpoints proactive, not reactive.
What We're Looking For
- Experience in bookkeeping, staff accounting, or controller-level work (public accounting or outsourced accounting background is a plus)
- Comfort managing multiple clients and shifting priorities without dropping the ball
- Working knowledge of QuickBooks Online (Bill.com, Karbon, or Fathom experience a bonus — we'll train you up)
- Strong Excel skills and genuine comfort with numbers, not just data entry
- Clear, confident communicator — you'll be client-facing regularly
- High energy & driven individuals who want continuous growth in their careers and knowledge
