About the Role
Performs admission interview process, registrations, and orders lab tests. Ensures all Medicare, insurance, and managed care requirements are met. Conducts venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests while adhering to safety requirements. Performs additional test procedures such as EKG and therapeutic INRs. Collects specimens for urine, nasal, and throat swabs. Demonstrates knowledge of specimen requirements and limitations of testing procedures. Acts as a resource for laboratory information. Processes specimens for testing, storage, and site batches if applicable.
Responsibilities
- Conduct admission interviews and registrations
- Order lab tests and ensure compliance with Medicare, insurance, and managed care requirements
- Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures for blood tests
- Conduct EKG and therapeutic INRs
- Collect specimens for urine, nasal, and throat swabs
- Process specimens for testing, storage, and site batches
- Serve as a resource for laboratory information
Qualifications
Education
- High school education or equivalent GED
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Proficiency in computer use, including word processing
Experience
- Three months of customer service experience
- Three months of phlebotomy experience, or a Clinical Phlebotomy certificate with a minimum of 32 hours of clinical rotation, or six months of experience in a medical field providing patient care, including drawing blood
Licensure/Certification
- Basic Life Support (BLS) training required during orientation prior to providing patient care; must maintain current BLS certification throughout employment
- For Outreach employees: Valid Oklahoma State Driver’s license with fewer than 3 points, meeting NRHS MVR policy criteria or completion of Defensive Driving
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- One year of experience in a medical setting preferred
