The role

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic Clerical Officer to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde within Pharmacy Services at the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre. This is a rewarding role at the heart of a busy and compassionate service supporting patients undergoing cancer treatment across the region. You will play a vital part in ensuring an efficient, safe and patient-focused pharmacy service, supporting both patients and clinical teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide a professional and welcoming reception service, managing prescriptions including identification, prioritisation, and patient queries
  • Accurately process handwritten, electronic and clinical trial prescriptions, ensuring appropriate authorisation and timely handling
  • Support the community supply service by checking prescriptions on Chemocare and ensuring transcription accuracy before distribution
  • Cookordinate hospital transport delivery services, scheduling deliveries and liaising with transport teams to meet patient needs
  • Maintain and update patient information using systems such as Trackcare and Excel spreadsheets, ensuring accuracy at all times
  • Respond to patient enquiries regarding prescriptions and medication collection in a professional and compassionate manner
  • Adhere to Standard Operating Procedures, local policies and protocols while working under pressure in a busy environment

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job

  • General education with demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills, including English and Maths qualifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with patients and colleagues
  • Ability to organise, prioritise workload and use initiative within a demanding service environment
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel, with general IT skills
  • Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Previous experience in a healthcare, pharmacy or reception environment is desirable but not essential as full training will be provided
  • Commitment to ongoing training, development and continuous professional development
