Cleaning Specialist

About the Role

Cleaning Specialists are responsible for sustaining a sterile environment in all areas of the hospital. They clean and sanitize horizontal and vertical surfaces as directed, performing all duties in a manner consistent with the mission and values of Madison Valley Medical Center (MVMC).

Responsibilities

• Monitors building to ensure a neat and clean presentation and safe environment.
• Performs various routine cleaning and maintenance activities, including sweeping and mopping all solid surface flooring and vacuuming carpeted areas.
• Cleans restrooms, disinfecting toilets, sinks, tub-showers, and floors.
• Damp dusts all horizontal surfaces, windows, and window coverings.
• Transports trash, linens, and biohazardous waste to appropriate areas using designated containers.
• Ensures cleaning supplies for the entire facility are ordered, maintained at appropriate levels, safely stored, and labeled.
• Stocks and restocks closets, carts, supply rooms, patient, and non-patient areas.
• Maintains patient and employee confidentiality.
• Utilizes appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
• Maintains and empties sharps containers throughout the building.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
• Previous housekeeping experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• CPR certification required.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

• Extensive standing and walking with occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
• Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull at least 45 pounds frequently.
• Must be able to stand and walk for periods of up to 6 hours frequently.
• Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl frequently during a six-hour shift.
• Very good close vision and the ability to identify and distinguish color.
• Some risk of radiation exposure and electrical shock.
• Work is in a clean hospital environment with quiet to moderate noise levels.

OSHA Category Classification: Category I – Employee will have occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in the performance of their routine job.
