Primary Responsibilities
- Review cleaning and testing procedures prior to performing assigned work and before entering tank cars
- Learn, follow, and comply with confined space entry procedures and all applicable safety policies
- Verify calibration of testing equipment to ensure accurate readings, including LEL meters, oxygen content meters, pH meters, and Draeger meters
- Connect and operate high-pressure air, steam, and water hoses, along with cleaning rack equipment
- Perform manual cleaning of tank interiors as required
- Operate and monitor testing equipment throughout the cleaning process
- Ensure cleaning procedures and equipment comply with company standards and EPA regulations
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and promptly report potential safety hazards
Required Qualifications
- A High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment Test
- Demonstrated job-related computational skills and ability to read gauges, rulers, and applicable measuring devices
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision
- Strong focus on safety and quality
- Ability to work any shift, including overtime, in accordance with the union contract
- Dependable and reliable attendance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment
- Rail industry experience
- Tank car knowledge or experience
Work Environment & Schedule
- Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involving regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions
- Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is common
- Job requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces
- Must be able to enter tank cars through 20-inch manway openings
- Manual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operation
- Potential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spills
- Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols
- On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required
