Cleaning Rack Operator

Primary Responsibilities

  • Review cleaning and testing procedures prior to performing assigned work and before entering tank cars
  • Learn, follow, and comply with confined space entry procedures and all applicable safety policies
  • Verify calibration of testing equipment to ensure accurate readings, including LEL meters, oxygen content meters, pH meters, and Draeger meters
  • Connect and operate high-pressure air, steam, and water hoses, along with cleaning rack equipment
  • Perform manual cleaning of tank interiors as required
  • Operate and monitor testing equipment throughout the cleaning process
  • Ensure cleaning procedures and equipment comply with company standards and EPA regulations
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and promptly report potential safety hazards

Required Qualifications

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent, or ability to pass a Combined Basic Skills Assessment Test
  • Demonstrated job-related computational skills and ability to read gauges, rulers, and applicable measuring devices
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with minimal supervision
  • Strong focus on safety and quality
  • Ability to work any shift, including overtime, in accordance with the union contract
  • Dependable and reliable attendance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an Industrial Repair or Manufacturing environment
  • Rail industry experience
  • Tank car knowledge or experience

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Work is performed in an industrial railcar repair environment involving regular exposure to challenging physically demanding and environmental conditions
  • Duties may be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, heat, and noise is common
  • Job requires moderate to heavy physical exertion, including lifting, climbing, working at heights, and working in confined spaces
  • Must be able to enter tank cars through 20-inch manway openings
  • Manual dexterity and physical coordination required for tool and equipment operation
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials due to leaks or spills
  • Must comply with all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety protocols
  • On-site work arrangement: 5 days a week, with overtime as required
