About the Role
This position is part of a dedicated team responsible for the day-to-day upkeep, cleaning, set-ups, repairs, and maintenance of a busy parish campus. As an integral part of the parish ministry, the role supports the mission of Saint William Catholic Church by fostering a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for parishioners, staff, and visitors.
Employees in this position are closely connected to and assist the Pastor in performing his ministry, thereby engaging in ministry for the Church. The role requires a commitment to upholding the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, both professionally and personally.
Responsibilities
- Dedicate 30 minutes daily to prayer (Perpetual Adoration Chapel available).
- Maintain campus custodial operations, ensuring high standards of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including:
- Changing light bulbs and air filters.
- Cleaning ceiling diffusers and grilles.
- Painting, drywall repairs, carpet cleaning, and floor refinishing.
- Landscaping and sprinkler system maintenance.
- Unlock/open and lock/close buildings and classrooms as needed.
- Manage day-to-day physical operations of church facilities, including:
- Setting up tables, chairs, AV equipment, and garbage bins.
- Preparing beverages and maintaining inventory of maintenance supplies.
- Creating a welcoming atmosphere for visitors, parishioners, and staff.
- Support the Pastor, clergy, staff, and parishioners by professionally responding to their needs.
- Work independently at times, taking direction from multiple sources.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude, fostering a courteous environment.
- Complete work orders and support all aspects of events and campus cleanliness.
- Demonstrate a servant leadership work ethic and teamwork attitude, filling in wherever needed.
- Perform basic audio and video equipment functions.
- Set up and tear down classrooms, meeting spaces, and parish events.
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment as directed.
- Maintain the neatness and cleanliness of grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, sports facilities, and landscaping.
- Follow work orders and supervisor direction.
- Work weekends, holidays (especially Christmas and Holy Week), and varying shifts as needed.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities or supervisor.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years of building maintenance and/or custodial experience.
- Knowledge of the structure and basic teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Proficiency in general cleaning practices using household-type chemicals and equipment.
- Ability to provide excellent customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, and laity.
- Ability to read labels, use cleaning chemicals safely, follow safety protocols, and wear appropriate safety gear.
- Basic understanding of email and mobile apps.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently at a fast pace, pay attention to detail, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 40 pounds.
- Proficiency in English or Spanish; bilingual preferred.
- Must be Catholic.
- Must be certified in Diocese of Austin EIM (Ethics and Integrity in Ministry) within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
Working Conditions

- Fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
- Required to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Exposure to religious ceremonies, Catholic Christian prayer, and liturgical celebrations.
- Must adhere to dress codes and conduct standards, including EIM standards in and outside the workplace.
- May be required to use a personal vehicle for travel to other parishes or off-site locations.
- Must align personal and professional activities with the mission and moral teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
