Cleaner (Nights)

Job Summary

The Department of Environmental Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Cleaner (Nights).

• Performs a variety of cleaning tasks in assigned areas.
• Cleans and/or removes hazardous or misplaced items, waste, and spills.
• Washes floors, corridors, stairwells, walls, partitions, and windows using mops, detergents, brushes, and other cleaning devices.
• Vacuums, strips and waxes floors, and shampoos carpets, using manual or mechanical equipment.
• Cleans showers and restrooms, including toilets, sinks, and drains, using hand-operated equipment and cleaning agents.
• Polishes wood and metal surfaces, fixtures, furniture, and equipment.
• Moves, and arranges furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings, events, and other activities.

Responsibilities

• Collects and empties trash and recycling in accordance with cleaning schedules.
• Prepares, mixes, and dilutes cleaning solutions following manufacturer directions.
• Monitors cleaning supplies and equipment.
• Notifies supervisor of supply levels, equipment malfunction, and/or maintenance issues observed during cleaning.
• Moves, and arranges furniture and equipment in connection with cleaning tasks or in preparation for meetings, events, and other activities.
• May be required to follow specialized disinfectant, waste disposal, and cleanliness standards in performing cleaning tasks.
• Removes snow and salt walkways; clean sidewalks, drives, and grounds; mow lawns, using mechanical and manual equipment.
• Performs routine laundry tasks.
• Changes bed linens.
