Cleaner

About the role

The successful candidate will perform a variety of routine cleaning and light maintenance duties while ensuring school facilities are well-maintained.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, mop, strip, wax, and maintain floors
• Vacuum carpets and rugs
• Wash windows and other glass surfaces
• Empty trash and recycling receptacles
• Dust woodwork, furniture, fixtures, and other surfaces
• Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies
• Operate custodial equipment and tools safely and effectively
• Shovel snow and assist with seasonal grounds maintenance
• Adjust thermostats and perform other routine building support tasks as assigned

Requirements

• Working knowledge of building cleaning methods, supplies, materials, and equipment
• Ability to safely operate cleaning equipment and perform routine custodial tasks
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
• Ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English to perform the essential functions of the position
• Ability to work independently, follow directions, and contribute as a member of a team

Qualifications

• Previous experience in building and cleaning maintenance is desirable
• Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation

Skills

• Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor
• Ability to describe orally or in writing cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff members contacted in the course of work
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure
• Ability to work in poor weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, or snow
• Ability to work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts
• Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s)
