About the role
The Distribution Center Cleaner conducts deep cleaning and upkeep of an assigned area in a distribution center. This role operates under the direction of a supervisor, either individually or as part of a team, with a strong emphasis on safe operation in accordance with Company policies.
Responsibilities
- Cleans and maintains buildings and facilities, performing heavy cleaning duties on various surfaces within the distribution center.
- Notifies managers of the need for minor or major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication and working relationships with associates, leaders, co-workers, and vendors.
- Complies with all safety, security, compliance, and quality standards and procedures established by the Company and regulatory authorities.
- Cleans building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
- Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
- Dusts and washes furniture, walls, machines, ceilings, equipment, and other surfaces, sometimes using ladders or powered equipment.
- Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates, and equipment to clean areas, either manually or by using hand trucks.
- Removes stains from surfaces such as walls, floors, and equipment using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
- Properly and safely uses and mixes cleaning chemicals per manufacturer and company standards.
- Removes debris, empties trash and cardboard containers, and sweeps floors.
- Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
- Cleans interior partition glass, windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
- Sprays insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation.
- Keeps supply closet neat and orderly and maintains equipment in good working order.
- Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
- Monitors building security and safety by locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure no hazards are created.
- Operates floor scrubbing equipment, cardboard baler, and maintains all stations containing janitorial equipment.
- Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to assigned work.
- Identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions with management oversight.
- Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
- Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Drives vehicles (if required) to perform or travel to cleaning work, including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
- Operates powered equipment.
- Works at high heights or in tight spaces.
- Works around powered equipment.
- May be expected to make basic repairs.
- Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
- Ability to work at heights and in tight environments.
- Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms.
- Occasionally required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and taste or smell.
- Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to be on their feet most of the day and walk several miles each day.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred but not required.
- 1 year of similar work experience.
- Ability to present self in a highly professional manner and understands that honesty and ethics are essential.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude.
- Ability to clearly communicate and convey information with co-workers and vendors.
- Ability to maintain a professional relationship with all coworkers, vendor representatives, supervisors, and managers.

1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM
