About the Role

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate classroom teacher to advance the Roosevelt Charter Academy mission and vision by providing high-quality classroom instruction and a focus on continued improvement of students, school, and self. You will create a positive and engaging learning environment where students feel supported, challenged, and motivated to achieve their full potential. Working collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and administrators, you will implement curriculum standards, develop lesson plans, assess student progress, and provide constructive feedback to foster continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement engaging, developmentally appropriate lesson plans that cater to the diverse needs of students, including those with disabilities and English language learners.
  • Differentiate instruction to ensure all students can succeed, translating lesson plans into dynamic learning experiences that maximize instructional time.
  • Foster critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity through interactive activities that encourage student engagement.
  • Conduct regular assessment of student learning, achievement, and performance, reporting results as per school policy.
  • Create a positive, supportive classroom environment that promotes creativity, self-expression, and teamwork.
  • Provide clear and consistent expectations and instructions to ensure a safe and productive learning space.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Must be or able to be endorsed in the content area, passed the PLACE or Praxis test in the content area, and/or have 24 semester credits in the content area to meet Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) "highly qualified" status.
  • Previous teaching experience (preferably in elementary education) is a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations, including those with special needs, is beneficial.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong classroom management skills.
  • Patience, creativity, and a passion for working with children.
  • Ability to design and implement effective instructional strategies.
  • Familiarity with educational technology tools and platforms.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families.

Schedule

  • Hours: 7:15 AM – 3:45 PM, Monday through Friday.
  • Two plan periods totaling 90 minutes and a duty-free lunch.
  • Friday students leave at 1:30 PM to allow for professional development or preparation for the next week.
  • Occasional after-school or evening events (e.g., music shows, exhibitions, parent nights).

Working Conditions

  • Classroom-based environment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry materials (e.g., books, classroom supplies).
  • Active engagement and movement while working with students.
