The Student Parent Support Center provides information, support, and family resources for University students, faculty, staff, and patients. The center's programs are NAEYC accredited and serve children from birth to six years, offering part-time and full-time programming in three campus child care programs, as well as drop-in child care for patients visiting the three U Health Centers throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

Responsibilities

  • Helps children experience success in physical, social, and intellectual tasks.
  • Reinforces and broadens concepts as presented by the teacher.
  • Observes behavior, documents, and may offer suggestions to the teacher.
  • Does not directly communicate with parents concerning children's problems.
  • May assume full responsibility for the group for short periods when the teacher is occupied.
  • Assists the teacher in activities contributing to an orderly, clean environment for children.
  • Meets with the teacher and staff to assist in planning.
  • Plans a morning or afternoon small group activity with assistance from the Head Teacher.
  • Supervises playground unless specifically requested to be indoors.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance.
  • Willingness to take direction from the assigned teacher.
  • Must obtain a food handlers permit, TB test, Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) background check, and first aid training within the first 60 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
  • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to lift and carry small children (10-50 lbs.) for short distances.
  • Must meet physical requirements, including:
    • Fine and gross motor skills.
    • Sufficient vision to read printed material.
    • Sufficient hearing to hear normal and telephone conversations.
    • Ability to speak clearly and audibly in normal conversation.
    • Ability to sit on the floor and move about on hands and knees for long periods.
    • Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with children, parents/guardians, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must complete ongoing written assessments about each child to share with parents/guardians.
  • Demonstrated skills in general office duties, computer systems, and technology.
  • Must be available for in-person meetings with parents/guardians when requested.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with management or dispatch in case of emergency.

Preferences

  • Interest in learning about child development and guidance.

Schedule

  • Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.
  • Schedules may vary; up to 19 hours per week, depending on hiring needs and incumbent schedule.

Pay

$14.50 to $15.00 per hour.
