About the Role

This position plays a key role in ensuring equal access to educational opportunities for students by providing accommodation support within the classroom environment. The role involves directing safety and support for a student with a disability and is based on the student’s class schedule.

Schedule

Hours for this position are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00–11:00 AM and 1:00–4:45 PM. The student’s schedule will change in October.

Responsibilities

  • Perform tasks related to a student’s approved accommodations.
  • Assist with safety compliance within the educational setting.
  • Collaborate and communicate with faculty and Accommodation Services on a regular basis.
  • Assist with physical mechanics and/or dexterity requirements, including but not limited to: basic operation of machinery, lifts, and tools, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance.

  • Collaborate with academic departments, student services, college-wide programs, and community resources to implement student success strategies.
  • Exhibit self-motivation, excellent time-management, and organizational skills.
  • Possess working knowledge of personal computers and the ability to learn database software related to student data, institutional data, and communication.
  • Aspire to work with people of all backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences, and cultivate an environment that values differences.

Physical Activities (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation)

  • Work in a classroom and lab setting.
  • Occasional (10–33%): standing, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
  • Frequent (34–66%): reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work.
  • Constant (67–100%): sitting, walking, repetitive motion, talking, and hearing.

Requirements

  • Associate of Arts Degree in Automotive Technology (or similar) and/or at least two years of work experience within the field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience in education or a related field.
  • Knowledgeable in the area of automotive technology.
