JOB DESCRIPTION Mechanic TITLE: Mechanic FTE: 1.0 FLSA STATUS: Non Exempt HOURS PER DAY: 8 WORK CALENDAR: 261 days COMPENSATION: Transportation Initial Placement Compensation Guide (Starting at $26.35/hour) Essential Duties And Responsibilities Maintains and performs preventative maintenance and repairs to district fleet vehicles to ensure safe working conditions. Must be capable and willing to drive any vehicle assignedCompletes assigned work orders and review prioritiesPerforms preventative maintenance, inspects, diagnoses and repairs defects to all District fleet vehiclesIdentifies, orders and secures parts for repairsPerforms troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical and electrical components, including video equipmentAdvises dispatcher of vehicle availability and vehicles that are out of serviceMaintains records of time, materials, parts required, as well as maintenance and repairs completed to each vehicleEnsures vehicles meet safety standards and emissions requirementsCleans and maintains district equipment, tools and the bus facilityEstablishes and maintains appropriate interpersonal relations with staffMay be required to travel and work outside normal work hoursResponds and provides assistance and services for emergency repairsAssists in transferring students to alternate vehicles when necessaryArranges for transportation of disabled vehiclesMay be exposed to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and fumesAttends and participates in department meetings and trainingObserves all state and federal mandatory safety regulations and district policyReports all citations and accidents and complete required formsSubmits to random, periodic and post-accident drug/alcohol testingMust be capable and willing to drive any vehicle assignedMaintain confidentiality of information regarding students, staff, parents and school issuesProvide a welcoming atmosphere for students, staff, parents and communityPerform responsibilities in an ethical and professional manner Maintain punctual and regular attendancePerform other related duties as assigned Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Required To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications for this job description are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required Education / Certificate High school diploma, GED or equivalent Must be 21 years of age, possess or acquire a valid AZ Commercial Driver License (CDL) class B with P and S endorsements and AZ Bus Driver Certificate Experience as a Journeyman Mechanic, ASE certified with knowledge in heavy equipment, buses and diesel engines preferred Exemplary driving record with no more than 8 points in the past 39 months or repeated violations in the past 10 years. Proof of 39 month driving record must be obtained from the Motor Vehicle Department annually Must obtain and maintain CPR and first aid certificate Must pass physical examination and annual drug screening as prescribed by AAC R17-9-102 Must have and maintain a valid IVP Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card Experience Experience driving school buses or heavy trucks preferredSkill in assisting students with disabilities in loading, transferring, securing and unloadingKnowledge of Agua Fria and metro geographical area, roads, bus stops and school bus routesAbility to perform minor and major repairs on vehiclesAbility to use hydraulics, power and hand tools, and electronic testing instrumentsMust be 21 years of age or older upon hire Communication Skills Establish and maintain appropriate interpersonal relations with staff Computer Skills Ability to operate computer, MS office applications and maintenance records software.
