General Description of Work

Position Title: Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 3, Engineering (Class Code 255O)

Classification: WFSE Classified

FTE: 1.0

Schedule: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday 8 AM-5 PM. Occasional evening work may be required and scheduled in advance.

FLSA Status: Overtime Eligible

Responsibilities

  • Installs, inspects, tests, calibrates, adjusts, troubleshoots, and performs major repairs on engineering equipment, instrumentation, and laboratory systems.
  • Collaborates with engineering faculty to develop, implement, and document instructional programs, laboratory exercises, demonstration models, and laboratory procedures that support course and program learning outcomes.
  • Designs, fabricates, tests, modifies, and documents equipment, prototypes, fixtures, and systems used in engineering laboratories, instructional activities, and student projects.
  • Manages the Engineering Makerspace within the Technology and Engineering Center, including oversight of equipment, operations, scheduling, safety protocols, and user access.
  • Supervises and coordinates the work of laboratory support staff, student employees, and other assigned personnel.
  • Captains laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, inventory control, storage, organization, and preparation of instructional materials and laboratory spaces.
  • Evaluates equipment and technology needs; researches equipment specifications; and makes recommendations regarding the purchase, replacement, and upgrade of laboratory equipment, software, and instructional resources.
  • Provides training and technical guidance to faculty, staff, and students in the safe and effective use of specialized engineering software, fabrication technologies, tools, and equipment, including CAD/CAM applications, 3D printers, laser cutters, CNC equipment, and related technologies.
  • Maintains computerized inventory, equipment records, maintenance logs, and technical documentation for laboratory equipment and facilities.
  • Performs the duties of an Instruction & Classroom Support Technician 2, including providing routine laboratory support, equipment maintenance, and instructional assistance.
  • Serves as the coordinator of assigned engineering laboratories and makerspace facilities, overseeing equipment usage, access, scheduling, and utilization of laboratory and instructional spaces.
  • Maintains compliance with laboratory safety procedures and provides instruction and supervision to students regarding the safe and proper use of tools, machinery, equipment, and laboratory facilities during classes and open-access laboratory periods.
  • Assists faculty and students in troubleshooting technical issues related to laboratory equipment, engineering software, fabrication processes, and instructional technologies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field. Two years of full-time experience as an Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 2 or equivalent role. OR equivalent combination education and experience sufficient for the person to perform the duties.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in a community college, university, or other higher education environment. Experience developing and delivering technical training, laboratory instruction, or makerspace orientation programs. Experience coordinating laboratory, makerspace, or fabrication facility operations, including equipment scheduling, inventory management, and safety compliance. Experience supporting interdisciplinary STEM programs and collaborating with faculty across multiple technical disciplines. The ability to take action to learn and grow. The ability to take action to meet the needs of others.
