About the role
This position involves performing approved sampling and sample retrieval for various types of flows including water, wastewater, storm water, and industrial flows.
Responsibilities
- Knowledge of sample custody procedures, including checking chain of custody, dechlorination of samples, and preservation.
- Knowledge of all TNRCC and EPA sampling protocols as per Federal and State regulations, including biomonitoring, root zone sampling, and priority pollutant screens.
- Perform investigative studies on water and wastewater systems using visual inspection methods, smoke tests, dye tests, etc.
- Operate and maintain automatic samplers, flowmeters, DO meters, field instrumentation, and gas monitors.
- Maintain good planning and organizational skills.
- Maintain a valid Texas Driver License and a good driving record.
- Communicate effectively in both English and Spanish, both orally and in writing.
- Comply with all City of Laredo’s policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Prepare sample bottles for upcoming sampling events.
- Conduct water quality tests on water and wastewater flows in the sewer system, creeks, rivers, and storm water outfalls.
- Investigate customer complaints and perform planning and maintenance tasks on instrumentation, vehicles, field equipment, and laboratory housekeeping.
- Follow all rules of telephone courtesy in all telephone communications.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. with two (2) years of experience in an environmental field.
- Two (2) years college or Technical Degree in Environmental Technology or Science.
- A valid Texas Driver License.
