Job Summary
About the role
This position involves operating various types of heavy equipment on heavy highway construction projects.
Responsibilities
- Operate specific construction equipment on heavy road construction job sites including earth moving of overburden materials.
- Possess a strong understanding of safety protocols and work effectively within a team environment.
- Efficiently operate heavy mobile equipment such as excavator, front end loader, and finish grader.
- Perform pre-shift and post-shift safety inspections and complete daily equipment reports.
- Report unsafe mechanical conditions to supervisor.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices on equipment.
- Train new equipment operators on the equipment they are qualified to operate.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED or an equivalent preferred.
- Intermediate to advanced experience operating heavy off road mobile equipment on road constructions jobs.
- Comply with all SHE and other company policies, procedures and requirements.
- Follow established traffic patterns avoiding road hazards and other hazardous conditions.
- Work in outdoor weather conditions of heat and cold.
- Effectively communicate with site supervisors, haul truck operators, and other team members.
- Be able to work in high and/or precarious places or cramped work space that requires getting into awkward positions.
- Wear 6 inch, safety toe, and lace-up boots and other proper PPE.
- Work required overtime with a flexible work schedule.

- Work outdoors and exposed to varying and/or extreme weather conditions (i.e., heat, wet, cold, etc).
- May work in high and/or precarious places or cramped work space that requires getting into awkward positions.
- Must be able to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; grip, climb, reach, shovel, squat, crawl, or pull, push, as well as, bend and lift 45 pounds.
Skills
- Ability to load materials in haul trucks or into stockpiles efficiently.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- High degree of competence, skill and proficiency in operating heavy mobile equipment.
- Proactive in identifying potential hazards, taking steps to mitigate risks, and ensuring that both personal and collective safety are maintained in all tasks and environments.
- Commitment to high-quality work, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and personal responsibility in fulfilling job duties.
