Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate Class A Heavy Duty company vehicles, including 53' trailers and Power Unit Semi Trucks to transport a variety of large and highly valuable and sensitive materials, merchandise and/or heavy equipment.
- Perform pickups and deliveries across multiple US Western States on a bi-weekly basis that require 2-4 days of total travel time.
- Perform pickups and deliveries within the greater San Diego, Riverside and San Bernadino Counties as needed.
- Handle and load extra-large and sensitive equipment using large forklifts.
- Aid in loading and unloading vehicles to ensure material/equipment being transported is secured and protected while in transit.
- Create and validate bill of ladings, manifests, hazardous materials declarations, trip reports, DVIR’s, etc.
- Transport hazardous or dangerous good materials in accordance with US DOT regulations and requirements.
- Work overtime as required.
Qualifications
- Typically requires High School diploma or equivalent and four or more years driving experience.
- Driving vehicles over 26,001 lbs. GVWR including a towed vehicle GVWR of over 10,001 lbs. requires a valid Class A driver license issued within the state of operation, including appropriate endorsements, valid USDOT number and valid USDOT Medical Certificate/card.
- This position is subject to periodic DOT compliance audits including random drug and alcohol screening, driving history audits, and required documentation.
- Must meet state and federal minimum age requirements for interstate and interstate transport.
- Must be customer focused and possess ability to operate material handling equipment and qualify for company fork-lift operator's license.
- Physical capability of handling awkward objects, heavy lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, climbing, skills to maintain the flow of work within the unit.
- Interpersonal skills and written communication skills to interface with employees and to accurately document and maintain DOT records.
- Basic knowledge of computer operations and applications and basic mathematical skills.
- The ability to work both independently and in a team, environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
