Primary Responsibilities
- Fully understand how to operate and safely drive your assigned delivery vehicle
- Drive trucks with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) over 26,000 lbs
- Pull a towed weight exceeding 10,000 lbs
- Ensure trailer hitch is properly and securely attached to the tractor unit
- Transport goods from the place of origin to assigned destination
- Pick-up loads and organize goods in an ordered and logical manner
- Ensure contents are properly secured inside of the truck to prevent breakage or damage
- Operate pump of oil and fuel pumps
- Safely and efficiently handle and unload goods at selected destinations
- Absorb and complete deliveries with clients
- Assist in mapping delivery routes
- Communicate with dispatch as needed
- Confirm contents of each shipment load matches the manifest document
- Perform inspections of your vehicle prior to and following each trip
- Check weather conditions and road reports in preparation for departure
- Main vehicle in clean and organized manner
- Maintain and service vehicle as needed (refuel, change oil, tire pressure, repairs, etc.)
- Notify managers of any major maintenance or delivery issues encountered
- Follow delivery schedule and rest at appropriate times
- Maintain detailed driving and delivery logs
- Track and report working hours
- Adhere to company rules and regulations
Qualifications
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to independently lift 50- 75 lbs.
- Disciplined, dependable, and resourceful
- Demonstrate the ability to integrate work across relevant areas, develop the business and services to enhance customer satisfaction and productivity, manage risks appropriately, manage information, and provide exceptional service to internal and external customers
- Demonstrate effective decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation
- Demonstrate strong ethics, interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively manage stress and engage in continuous learning
- Ability to follow safe work practices and wear all required personal protection equipment for the task (safety glasses/shield, hardhat, safety boots and gloves)
- Comply with ICC and DOT regulations
- Proficient using GPS and other routing systems
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
- Must possess a valid Class A driver's license
- Minimum 3+ years proven experience with tractor-trailer driving
- Must have Tanker/Hazmat experience
- Clean driving record
- Must pass a background check and drug test
- Skilled at driving large vehicles
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. at a time
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers, feel, operate objects, tools, and controls
- Regularly required to use hands and arms in any direction
- Regularly required to stand, sit, climb or balance
- Frequently lift 50 pounds and occasionally lift 75 pounds
- Carry from floor level to waist level; also push/pull objects with similar force
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
