About the role
The Delivery Driver is responsible for the delivery, storage, and merchandising of Gulf Distributing Company products in assigned accounts. The role also includes safe truck operation and the return of all money, unsold product, and empties.
Physical Tasks
- Keep shelves and vendors clean.
- Place product on hand truck or dolly (approximately 20 to 50 lbs per case).
- Push/pull hand truck to machine or shelves and load appropriate Gulf Distributing Company product.
- Climb in and out of vehicle and use proper lifting techniques.
Responsibilities
- Report to work on time and clock in and out at appropriate times.
- Ensure your truck is properly loaded at all times to prevent damage to the product.
- Count your product load out and in each day with the warehouse personnel, ensuring both are accurate and complete. Sign the Load-out and Load-in sheets.
- Make deliveries according to the established route sequence.
- Avoid deliveries during retailers’ busy times when possible.
- Ensure proper rotation of delivered product and existing stock within the cooler, displays, and backroom.
- Merchandise all products in retail accounts according to Gulf Distributing Company guidelines, including front-facing packages.
- Build, merchandise, and sign displays as directed by Salesperson(s).
- Use paper and permanent POS in each account in the proper manner and quantity.
- Complete all special attention items communicated by Salesperson(s) or Channel Manager.
- Complete all paperwork correctly and according to established procedures.
- Collect all monies due for product delivery and check them in according to established procedures.
- Safely handle all empties and unsold product to prevent damage.
- Attend all Safety and Drivers Meetings.
- Call on scheduled accounts and merchandise them completely, including product from backstock.
- Inspect your vehicle each morning prior to leaving the warehouse according to DOT regulations and ensure adequate fluid levels.
- Maintain current DOT-required logs.
- Obey all traffic laws when operating a company vehicle.
- Demonstrate courtesy on the road; be polite to other drivers as it reflects on the company’s image.
- Park your truck so it does not interfere with the retailer’s customers.
- Keep your truck cab clean and organized at all times.
- Ensure your truck is properly serviced and repaired as necessary.
- At the last delivery stop, load all empty pallets into one bay on each side of the truck.
- Maintain a positive working relationship with owners, managers, and employees of all accounts.
- Demonstrate a sincere interest in the business success of each account.
- Maintain open and clear communications with all Gulf Distributing Company employees and account personnel.
- Communicate new competitive activity in your accounts to the Delivery Manager.
- If unable to make a scheduled delivery, immediately communicate the reason to the Delivery Manager or Salesperson.
- After completing scheduled delivery duties, check with warehouse office personnel for possible additional assignments.
- Ensure proper rotation is in effect in all assigned accounts.
- Be aware of code dates and pick up all product directed by Salesperson(s).
- Dress in uniform and maintain a professional personal appearance according to company policy.
- Properly operate, protect from damage, and return all issued equipment (e.g., radios, hand trucks, vehicles).
- Conduct all activities within company policies and procedures, as well as local, state, and federal liquor control regulations.
- Report any traffic violations (on or off duty) that may affect your CDL or insurability to the Delivery Manager.
- Report all accidents and injuries immediately to the Delivery Manager/Safety Coordinator.
- Perform all work activities in accordance with established safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
